Complying with ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, India unveiled its first indigenous AI-powered combat drone, ‘Kaala Bhairav’, in Bengaluru, Karnataka, this week.
In a huge boost to defence export to the country, the combat drone has already clinched $25 million order from a South Asian country.
Kaala Bhairav has 30-hour endurance, a 3,000 km range, and swarm-strike capability. Delivering strategic autonomy at a fraction of the Predator’s cost, it marks a significant milestone in India’s UAV evolution.
Meanwhile, Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace (FWDA), an AI warfare and autonomous combat aircraft company, announced on Friday India's first indigenous, export-ready Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) autonomous combat aircraft. At the launch event, Suhas Tejaskanda, Founder & CEO of FWDA, said that with shifting global policies and tightened US regulations, India cannot afford digital dependency during wartime.
“Dependence on foreign systems could limit India’s strategic autonomy, as sensitive operational data may be routed through external networks and remain accessible to overseas agencies,” he added.
The aircraft is engineered to deliver an endurance of up to 30 hours and a range of 3,000 km, according to Tejaskanda.
Inspired by Kaala Bhairav, the eternal guardian of time, the platform is designed, developed, and manufactured entirely in India, according to a press note.
