India has called on Bangladesh to enhance border security following the killing of three Bangladeshi nationals in Tripura, who allegedly crossed the international boundary and attacked villagers. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasised the need to uphold the sanctity of the International Boundary.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, responding to questions, said India remains committed to maintaining peace along the border. “Bangladesh should support the construction of fencing where needed to prevent cross-border crimes and smuggling,” he added.
The incident occurred on October 15 in Bidyabil village, Khowai district, where the three miscreants allegedly entered illegally to steal cattle. They reportedly attacked villagers with iron dahs and knives, killing one and injuring others before locals retaliated. Two died on the spot, while the third succumbed to injuries in hospital the following day.

“The mortal remains of all three miscreants have been handed over to Bangladesh,” the MEA noted. Police in Tripura have registered a case, and security forces are investigating the incident.
Local reports suggest that the confrontation began when villagers at a rubber farm spotted the intruders with stolen cattle. Attempts to resist the theft escalated, leading to the fatal violence.
Bangladesh strongly condemned the killings. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement calling the incident a “heinous act" and a “grave violation of human rights and the rule of law.”
“The Government of Bangladesh strongly protests and condemns the brutal beating and killing of three Bangladeshi citizens by a mob in Tripura, India, on 15 October 2025. The perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice,” the statement said.
Dhaka also urged New Delhi to conduct an “immediate, impartial and transparent investigation” and ensure measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
