An all-party parliamentary delegation from India, led by NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule, held high-level discussions with Egyptian lawmakers on Monday in Cairo. The visit is part of India’s diplomatic outreach to convey its firm and principled position against terrorism in the wake of recent escalations with Pakistan.
The Indian delegation was received by chairmen of various Parliamentary Committees and senior members of the Egyptian Senate and House of Representatives. The engagement was described as "productive" and "fruitful" by the Indian Embassy in Egypt. During the visit, the Indian delegation met with Senator Hossam Al-Khouly of the Mostaqbal Watan Party, MP Hazem Omar, Chairman of Egypt's Foreign Affairs Committee, and other prominent parliamentarians. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and reiterating India’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism.
According to a statement by the Embassy of India in Egypt, “The Senate reaffirmed solidarity with India and reiterated the importance attached to the close Strategic Partnership.” The delegation also held discussions with MP Karim Darwish, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Egyptian House of Representatives, along with other distinguished members.
The primary aim of the delegation’s visit is to convey India's unwavering stance against terrorism and to deepen engagement with Egypt, the League of Arab States, and other key stakeholders at both bilateral and multilateral levels. After concluding its visit to Ethiopia, the delegation arrived in Cairo on Sunday and was welcomed by India's Ambassador to Egypt, Suresh Reddy. The group has a packed agenda in Egypt, which includes meetings with senior ministers, parliamentarians, think tanks, media representatives, and members of the Indian diaspora.
The delegation is also scheduled to meet Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. As part of its cultural and diplomatic outreach, the delegation will pay floral tribute at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi in El-Horreya Park and visit the Heliopolis War Memorial. Additionally, they will engage with Egyptian scholars, senior editors, and strategic thinkers to promote mutual understanding and collaboration.
This visit is one of seven multi-party delegations dispatched by India to 33 global capitals to draw international attention to Pakistan’s links to terrorism. The diplomatic campaign follows the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which escalated tensions between India and Pakistan.
In response to the attack, India conducted precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. Pakistan retaliated by attempting attacks on Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10, prompting a strong counter-response from India. Hostilities on the ground subsided after both sides agreed to halt military actions, following talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) on May 10.
