Indian Army and Assam Rifles hold joint ops in Manipur

The Indian Army and Assam Rifles carried out a series of joint security operations in close coordination with Manipur Police between August 31 and September 6, the Ministry of Defence said in a press release.

Army and Assam Rifles seize arms and opium in Manipur.


The Indian Army and Assam Rifles carried out a series of joint security operations in close coordination with Manipur Police between August 31 and September 6, the Ministry of Defence said in a press release.

 

During the operations, security personnel apprehended 11 cadres from various hill and valley-based groups. They also recovered five weapons, narcotics and other war-like stores.

 

The operations were based on specific intelligence inputs from Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Chandel, Thoubal, Kakching, Imphal West and Imphal East districts.

 

On September 6, Assam Rifles apprehended four individuals in Kakching District. A mobile vehicle check post operation in Waikhong Bazar led to the seizure of 690 litres of spurious liquor, which was later handed over to Waikhong Police Station.

 

In another operation west of S. Lonphai village in Churachandpur district, the Indian Army and Manipur Police recovered a nine-foot rocket filled with high explosive. The device, weighing nearly 100 kg, was made of a green-coloured iron body and fitted with a battery mechanism.

 

On September 4, Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police Commandos arrested a suspected KCP (PWG) cadre in Waithou, Thoubal district.

 

Weapons recovered during the operations included an NSAS rifle with a magazine, two single-barrelled guns, 12-bore guns, a country-made pistol, four PEK sticks, two detonators, two 9 mm rounds, five AK-47 rounds, four 7.62 mm SLR rounds, five .303 rifle rounds and a metre of cordex wire.

These were seized from Saiton Gap in Bishnupur district.

 

On September 3, four active cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) factions and People’s War Group (PWG) were arrested in joint operations at Lamshang and Lairenkabi in Imphal West district.

 

In a separate search operation at Basikhong Lai Lampak in Bishnupur district, the Indian Army and Lrilbung Police apprehended an active cadre of the proscribed group PLA.

 

On August 31, Assam Rifles and Imphal East Police caught members of the PREPAK (PRO) cadre involved in extortion during an operation in Khongampat, Imphal West.

 

The following day, September 1, Assam Rifles, in joint action with the Narcotics Control Bureau, seized 138.5 kg of opium worth ₹6.9 crore. The cache was found concealed near British Camp in Chandel district, the Ministry of Defence said.
