The Indian Army is bolstering its air defence capabilities with the introduction of the 'Akashteer Command and Control Systems,' marking a crucial step in advancing India's defence prowess and technological advancement.
Developed by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the deployment of Akashteer is set to revolutionise the operational efficiency and integration of the Army's air defence mechanisms.
The commencement of Akashteer deployment began with the flagging off of the first batch of Control Centres from BEL Ghaziabad on April 4, 2024. This project represents a cutting-edge initiative aimed at automating Air Defence Control and Reporting processes by digitising the entire operation.
It aligns with the Indian Army's declaration of 2024 as the "Year of Tech Absorption," showcasing its commitment to integrating niche technologies and systems into its inventory.
Akashteer's integration of radar and communication systems into a unified network promises unparalleled situational awareness and control, enabling swift engagement of hostile targets while minimising the risk of friendly fire incidents.
Moreover, the system emphasises mobility and resilience, with vehicle-based and mobile Control Centres designed to maintain operational capabilities even in challenging communication environments.
The deployment of Akashteer signifies a significant milestone in the Indian Army's Path to Transformation, addressing both current and future requirements of complex air defence operations. By achieving complete automation of air defence operations, Akashteer is poised to elevate India's air defence posture to new heights, ensuring enhanced security and safety in contested airspace scenarios.
