The Indian Coast Guard detained a Bangladeshi fishing trawler with 29 fishermen on Saturday night after it was found violating Indian maritime boundaries in the Bay of Bengal. The trawler was subsequently handed over to the Frezerganj Coast Police Station, and the fishermen have been arrested.
According to police sources, the Coast Guard identified the suspicious trawler during a routine patrol. Upon boarding, it was confirmed that the vessel belonged to Bangladesh and had entered Indian waters for unknown reasons. The Sundarbans Police District has launched an investigation into the incident, and the accused fishermen are scheduled to be produced before the Kakdwip Mahakumar Court on Monday.
The arrest comes in the wake of heightened security in coastal areas following the mysterious death of a specially abled fisherman from Kakdwip, who had been detained in Bangladesh along with 34 Indian fishermen for allegedly crossing international maritime boundaries.

Satinath Patra, Secretary of the Kakdwip Fishermen’s Union, said, “A Bangladeshi fishing trawler entered Indian waters, which was noticed by the Coast Guard. The trawler and the 29 fishermen were detained and handed over to the Frezerganj Coast Police Station. The remaining details are under investigation.”
Incidents of Bangladeshi fishermen allegedly entering Indian waters have been reported frequently. Last September, a trawler with 13 Bangladeshi fishermen was similarly detained by the Coast Guard after it crossed into Indian territory while fishing.
The authorities continue to monitor maritime borders closely to prevent further violations.
