Indian MPs briefed on global outreach to counter Pak's narrative

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Tuesday outlined the government’s global outreach strategy, emphasising the need to counter Pakistan’s narrative. Indian MPs from various parties will visit over 25 countries, including UNSC members, to present a united front against terrorism and expose Pakistan’s role in cross-border militancy.

In a concerted effort to counter Pakistan's narrative at global fora, Indian MPs from across the political spectrum are being deputed to over 25 strategically significant countries, including current and incoming members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to convey a united national stand against terrorism.

The initiative was outlined during a comprehensive briefing by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Tuesday, who underscored the importance of these outreach efforts.

“We want to give a message that India stands united against terrorism,” Misri stated, setting the tone for what is being seen as one of India’s most expansive diplomatic outreach missions involving elected representatives.

Aparajita Sarangi, BJP MP and a member of one of the delegations, explained the motivation behind the effort. “We are also going to five other countries that will become members of the UNSC in the days to come. A few such countries have been selected, whose voice is heard on international level, these nations are very important,” she said.

“So, representatives are going to over 25 nations... When meeting will be held at the UNSC, Pakistan, which would be a member of the UNSC for the next 17 months, will definitely try to present its position. It will make anti-India claims... So, it is essential now and our Govt rightly thought that MPs of different parties should visit these different countries together and present our narrative to the bureaucracy and political representatives there... and we condemn Pakistan's approach of promoting terrorism... This is our responsibility,” Sarangi added.

Echoing her stance, JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha highlighted Pakistan’s alleged direct role in the recent terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

“There were 2-3 things. The most important one was that Pakistan-sponsored training camps were responsible for the incident which occurred in Pahalgam. India took steps after that, and nine terrorist training centres were hit – this has to be told. Pakistan State and Pakistan Army are both involved in this,” Jha said.

Jha further invoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong warning following the incident. “This was done like a proxy war against India... The PM has said that it is enough now. We know your designs, and we will hit you deep inside. India did this in their self-defence,” he asserted.

The delegations, being sent out under the larger diplomatic banner of Operation Sindoor, include prominent names such as Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, JD(U)’s Sanjay Kumar Jha, DMK’s Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, and NCP (Sharad Pawar) leader Supriya Sule.

Shiv Sena MP Dr Shrikant Shinde noted that members from three parliamentary groups led by himself, Kanimozhi, and Sanjay Kumar Jha were part of Tuesday’s preparatory briefing.

These delegations are expected to engage with foreign bureaucracies and political counterparts to present India’s account of counter-terrorism actions and reaffirm its stance on cross-border militancy and its impact on regional stability.

In response, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted an interactive session with a high-level delegation led by Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The delegation is scheduled to visit key global capitals to present Pakistan’s stance on recent Indian hostilities, with senior officials providing detailed briefings to prepare them for diplomatic engagements.
