An Indian Navy warship carries out successful anti-ship missile firings in the Arabian Sea, a crucial demonstration of India’s maritime defence strength.

The Indian Navy has successfully conducted multiple anti-ship missile firings, demonstrating the combat readiness of its warships. The exercises were carried out in the Arabian Sea and were aimed at revalidating the operational readiness of platforms, systems, and crew for long-range precision offensive strikes.

A statement issued by the Indian Navy highlighted that these firings were a key step in demonstrating the Navy’s ability to safeguard India's maritime interests. The exercise focused on the operational effectiveness of the warships, with emphasis on long-range strike capability.

"Indian Navy Ships undertook successful multiple anti-ship firings to revalidate and demonstrate readiness of platforms, systems and crew for long-range precision offensive strike. Indian Navy stands Combat Ready, Credible and Future Ready in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests Anytime Anywhere Anyhow," the Navy spokesperson said via social media platform X.

The anti-ship firings come in the wake of increased tensions following the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, where 26 people lost their lives. This attack, attributed to militants, has escalated the already tense situation between India and Pakistan.

Previously, the Indian Navy's warship INS Surat carried out a successful test of the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) air defence system in the Arabian Sea. This test, which took place just before a scheduled missile test by the Pakistan Navy, is expected to enhance India's air defence capabilities. The MR-SAM system is highly effective against surface-to-surface missiles and aerial threats.

"Indian Navy's latest indigenous guided missile destroyer INS Surat successfully carried out a precision cooperative engagement of a sea skimming target, marking another milestone in strengthening our defence capabilities," the Indian Navy's social media post said.

The INS Surat, which is part of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project, stands as one of the world’s most advanced destroyers. The ship boasts an indigenous content of 75 percent and is equipped with advanced weapon-sensor packages and network-centric capabilities.
