India’s Navy Chiefs Reunite to Shape Strategy.

The Indian Navy hosted the Chiefs’ Conclave 2025 at its headquarters in New Delhi on 8 February, bringing together eight former Naval Chiefs to share their expertise and insights.

The gathering focused on discussions regarding the future of warfare, maritime strategy, and the evolving geopolitical landscape.

According to the Indian Navy, the conclave aimed to benefit from the vast experience of former naval leaders, who were given an operational update covering policy initiatives, technological advancements, material and logistics developments, and long-term strategic plans.

The sessions took place at the newly established Nausena Bhawan.

A key aspect of the conclave was an exclusive session titled ‘Manthan,’ which provided a platform for in-depth discussions on pressing issues related to maritime security and human resource strategies.

The session encouraged an open exchange of ideas, focusing on the challenges and opportunities presented by the changing dynamics of global security.

During the event, the Navy released a book titled Legacy of Leadership: Naval Chiefs through Time, which chronicles the journeys of former Chiefs of Naval Staff.

The collector’s edition offers a unique perspective into their leadership, featuring personal stories, rare photographs, and first-hand accounts of their experiences.

The Chief of Naval Staff reiterated the Navy’s unwavering commitment to protecting India’s maritime interests, acknowledging the contributions of past leadership.

“We are committed to carrying forward your illustrious legacy,” he stated, underscoring the importance of institutional continuity and the role of historical wisdom in shaping the future of India’s naval power.

The conclave took place at a crucial juncture, as the Indian Navy pushes towards achieving full self-reliance by 2047.

Efforts are underway to enhance operational capabilities in the vast Indian Ocean region, with key acquisitions, including fighter jets and submarines, nearing finalisation.

This gathering followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent dedication of three indigenously built combat platforms—two warships and a submarine—to the nation.

These additions mark a significant step towards strengthening the Indian Navy and reinforcing its role as a dominant maritime force in the 21st century.

The event further highlighted the Navy’s rapid strides in indigenisation, with 60 warships currently under construction at Indian shipyards.

The push towards self-reliance aligns with India’s long-term vision of a robust and independent naval force, coinciding with the nation’s centenary of independence in 2047.
