The Indian Navy received an indigenously built Diving Support Vessel 'Nistar', delivered by Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Visakhapatnam.
In line with India's 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat' mission, Nistar is nearly 75 per cent indigenously built.
What is a Diving Support Vessel?
DSV is a ship, specifically designed for underwater operations. These boats are equipped with cutting-edge diving systems, such as remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), decompression chambers, and other tools necessary for effective and safe underwater operations.
Specifications of Nistar -
"Measuring 118 m with a tonnage of nearly 10,000 tons, the ship is installed with state-of-the-art equipment & has the capability to undertake complex Deep Sea Saturation Diving and Rescue Operations up to 300 meters depth – a capability with select Navies across the globe", said the Indian Navy.
‘Nistar’ is also equipped with a suite of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) designed for diver monitoring and salvage operations at depths of up to 1,000 metres.

"The ship will also serve as the ‘Mother Ship’ for the Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV), to rescue and evacuate personnel, in case of an emergency in a submarine underwater. The delivery of Nistar, with nearly 75% Indigenous Content, is in line with the Government’s vision of #AatmanirbharBharat and the Indian Navy’s resolve towards strengthening its capabilities in the underwater domain," the official statement added.
