A 22-year-old Indian student, Sai Teja Nukarapu, was shot dead by armed men at a petrol pump in Chicago on Friday. Sai Teja, originally from Telangana, was working part-time at the petrol pump to support himself while pursuing an MBA in the United States.
According to BRS leader Madhusudan Thatha, Sai Teja was not on duty when the incident occurred. He had stayed back to help a friend who had requested his assistance. The friend had stepped out for some work when the shooting happened.
Sai Teja had completed his BBA in India and moved to the US just four months ago to further his education. His family, who resides near Khammam in Telangana, expressed their devastation upon learning the tragic news.
Mr. Thatha visited the victim's family to offer condolences and support. He also reached out to members of the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) for assistance in the matter.
A relative of Sai Teja shared that it was heartbreaking to lose him while he was simply helping a friend. Efforts are underway to bring Sai Teja's body back to India, with the repatriation expected to be completed by next week.
This tragic incident has left both Sai Teja's family and the wider Indian community in shock and mourning.
