The Indian Army will participate in the multinational military exercise 'Khaan Quest' in Mongolia from July 27 to August 9.

This exercise brings together armed forces from around the world to collaborate and enhance their peacekeeping capabilities.

A contingent of 40 Indian Army personnel, including a woman officer and two women soldiers, has already departed for Ulaanbaatar.

The defence ministry announced that the Indian side would be represented mainly by troops from a battalion of the Madras Regiment, supplemented by personnel from other arms and services.

The exercise, hosted in Ulaanbaatar, will feature military forces from various countries, aiming to improve joint peacekeeping operations. The last edition of Khaan Quest was held from June 19 to July 2, 2023, also in Mongolia.

Khaan Quest began as a bilateral event between the US and Mongolian Armed Forces in 2003.

It evolved into a multinational peacekeeping exercise in 2006, with this year marking its 21st iteration.

The primary objective of the exercise is to prepare the Indian armed forces for peacekeeping missions in a multinational environment, thus increasing interoperability and military readiness in peace support operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.

The Indian contingent will focus on achieving a high degree of physical fitness, joint planning, and joint tactical drills.

These tactical drills include establishing static and mobile checkpoints, conducting cordon and search operations, patrolling, evacuating civilians from hostile areas, countering improvised explosive devices (IEDs), providing combat first-aid, and performing casualty evacuations.

The exercise aims to enable participating countries to share best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for joint operations.

This collaboration will foster interoperability, camaraderie, and mutual understanding among soldiers from different nations.

The defence ministry highlighted that the exercise's emphasis on peacekeeping missions would significantly benefit the Indian armed forces, enhancing their capabilities and readiness for future international operations.
