The airlines have cited precautionary airspace restrictions and heightened security measures amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

IndiGo and Air India have suspended flight operations to several cities in northern and western India for May 13.

The airlines have cited precautionary airspace restrictions and heightened security measures amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

All flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, and Rajkot have been cancelled by IndiGo until 11:59 pm on Saturday.

In a statement, the airline said, “We understand how this may affect one's travel plans, and we regret the inconvenience. But our teams are monitoring the situation and will keep you informed of further updates.”

Air India also announced the cancellation of two-way flights to and from Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot.

The airline shared the update on X, stating, “In view of the latest developments and keeping your safety in mind, flights to and from Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot are cancelled for Tuesday, 13th May. We are monitoring the situation and will keep you updated.”

On Monday evening, an IndiGo flight en route to Amritsar returned to Delhi after precautionary blackout measures were enforced in Amritsar, as reported by the media.

These actions by the airlines came after drones were reportedly spotted in Samba, Akhnoor, Jaisalmer, and Kathua.

However, the Indian Army clarified on Tuesday that no recent drone activity has been detected and that the ceasefire remains intact, told the media.

Although the Airports Authority of India (AAI) reopened these airports on Monday, the airlines have chosen to proceed with caution.

Air India assured passengers that it is preparing to restore services.

“Following a notification from aviation authorities on the reopening of airports, Air India is working towards progressively commencing flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot. We appreciate your understanding at this time as our teams work on bringing operations at these airports back to normal. Please stay tuned for further updates,” the airline posted.

Meanwhile, Indian air defence systems intercepted Pakistani drones in the Samba sector, with red streaks and explosions visible in the night sky. Army sources confirmed that a small number of drones had entered the sector and were being actively engaged. They, however, said there is nothing to be alarmed about.
