A couple had to attend their own wedding reception function virtually after IndiGo flight cancellations. The unexpected scene is reported in Karnataka's Hubballi. Since there were widespread IndiGo flight cancellations, the newlywed couple could not travel to the city for their own wedding function.
Software engineers Medha Kshirsagar and Sangram Das, who both work in Bengaluru, had planned their wedding reception at Gujarat Bhavan in Hubballi, Medha's hometown. The couple had married earlier in Bhubaneswar on November 23, and the formal reception was scheduled for Wednesday in the bride’s hometown.
Medha Kshirsagar hails from Hubballi, and Sangram Das from Odisha's Bhubaneswar.
However, the event took a bizarre turn when the airline IndiGo cancelled several flights across the country due to an unexpected pilot shortage. The bride and groom were left stranded in Bhubaneswar after their flights, booked for December 2 to Hubballi via Bengaluru, were delayed repeatedly starting Tuesday morning and finally cancelled on December 3. Many of their relatives also faced flight cancellations.
Since all the guests had arrived and preparations were complete, the bride's parents stepped in. They sat in the seats reserved for the couple and performed the reception rituals. Meanwhile, the bride and groom, fully dressed for the occasion in Bhubaneswar, joined their own celebration by watching and participating through a live video conference.
