Security forces foiled an infiltration attempt early on Sunday along the International Border (IB) in the RS Pura sector of the Jammu division and recovered an arms cache.
The cache includes an AK-47 rifle and two pistols along with 4 mm and 9 mm magazines, the Border Security Force (BSF) said in a statement.
An official statement issued by the BSF said, “In the intervening night of 21 Sept/22 Sept 2024, the vigilant BSF troops noticed a suspicious movement wherein an intruder was observed approaching the BSF Fence in the RS Pura border area. The alert troops thwarted the infiltration attempt.”
In a separate development on Sunday, the Army apprehended a 35-year-old national along with ₹1800 in cash and a damaged ₹10 note.
Army officials told reporters that the man had been apprehended at the Sarabjit post and on being questioned identified himself as Hassam Shahzad, son of Shahzad Ahmed Khan of Tetrinate in Pakistan. However, they said no weapon had been recovered from his possession.
Before this, on September 16, the BSF foiled another infiltration bid alongside the international border in the Amritsar district of Punjab, killing a Pakistani intruder.
According to the BSF release then the intruder secretly crossed the international boundary at around 09:13 pm on Monday, September 16, and approached the border near Ratankhurd village.
The officials said that this man was attempting to take advantage of the darkness, and the troops stationed in the area fired at him. However, the intruder did not pay heed to multiple warnings and kept moving closer to the border fence.
