Security forces on Thursday shot dead an infiltrator from Pakistan near the international border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir even as an over ground worker of the terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen was arrested.
BSF troops in Khora detected suspicious movement of an individual near the fence and the international border last night. They challenged him and subsequently fired, killing him, sources said.
Efforts are continuing to identify the intruder while search operations continue in the area.
In another incident, security forces apprehended Mohd Khalil Lone, an over-ground-worker of the Hizbul Mujahideen, in Poonch.
A police spokesperson reported that Lone, a resident of Bandipur district in Kashmir, was captured in a joint operation by the 39 RR/6 Sector RR and the Poonch police from the Mangnar area.
“A mobile phone with multiple Pakistani SIM cards was recovered from his possession,” the spokesperson said. “He was apprehended after a meticulously planned joint operation.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Khalil is associated with the proscribed terror organisation Hizbul Mujahideen as a logistics provider and an OGW. He was deputed to receive a consignment of arms and ammunition.”
Meanwhile, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in several areas following information about the movement of two suspects in the Dera Ki Gali area of Poonch.
An official stated that the operation was initiated based on inputs that two individuals, dressed in black, were seen in the area.
The Rashtriya Rifles Unit of the Indian Army, in collaboration with local law enforcement and CRPF, carried out another operation in Gulabgarh.
Security sources have also reported that over 60 foreign terrorists, skilled in jungle warfare, are operating in small groups across the Jammu region.
These groups are equipped with advanced technology such as iridium satellite phones and thermal imaging, and are armed with sophisticated weapons, including the American M4 carbine.
