The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin on March 21, with the grand final scheduled for May 25, as confirmed by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President Rajeev Shukla.

This announcement was made following an important meeting held by the BCCI on January 12, where various key decisions were discussed, including the appointment of a new treasurer and secretary for the board.

The dates for the upcoming season mark an exciting time for cricket fans. The opening match of IPL 2025 will kick off on March 21, with teams gearing up for what promises to be an action-packed season.

The final match will take place on May 25, wrapping up the competition in grand fashion. This will be the first season with several new faces in leadership roles, with the board having recently made significant announcements regarding administrative changes.

Interestingly, there was some confusion surrounding the dates earlier. Rajeev Shukla had initially stated that the IPL would begin on March 23, but this was quickly corrected to March 21 after a clarification. This minor slip-up aside, the excitement around the start of IPL 2025 remains as high as ever.

In addition to confirming the schedule, the BCCI meeting also focused on other important matters. One of the most significant discussions was related to the Women's Premier League (WPL), with the venue now nearly finalised.

The IPL's women’s counterpart is expected to garner even more attention this year, and with the venue confirmed, teams and fans are now eagerly awaiting the season.

The meeting also addressed the appointment of a new IPL commissioner for a one-year term. With the busy season ahead, there is a growing sense of anticipation and responsibility as the cricketing calendar fills up.

The IPL 2025 mega auction, which took place over two days in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was a highlight of the meeting. This auction saw a record-breaking sale of 182 players, amounting to a total of Rs 639.15 crore.

It was an event that created a lot of buzz, with many high-profile players being sold for hefty amounts.

Notably, India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history after being sold for a staggering Rs 27 crore. Pant's inclusion in the auction was eagerly awaited, and the final price was a reflection of his growing stature in Indian cricket.

Other players like Shreyas Iyer (Rs 26.75 crore) and Venkatesh Iyer (Rs 23.75 crore) also fetched impressive bids, cementing their positions as valuable assets for their new teams.

On the other hand, players like David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, and Shardul Thakur went unsold, as teams opted for fresh talent or strategic changes.
