BJP and TMC rift on Khalistani slur.

IPS officer confirms LoP Suvendu Adhikari calling him 'Khalistani'

LoP Suvendu Adhikari called Sikh IPS officer Khalistani, confirms the official in an interview given to a local channel.

West Bengal has created a buzz in the entire nation with the burning issue of Sandeshkhali which refuses to cease. And, now, the Khalistani slur has given a different angle to the developments in the state vis-à-vis the nation pertaining to the farmer’s protest.

A day ago, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari went to meet the locals of Sandeshkhali Block-II, after seeking permission from the Calcutta High Court. However, another rift cropped up as Adhikari and other Bharatiya Janata Party leaders were stopped by the police on their way.

IPS officer Jaspreet Singh, who is posted as Special Superintendent of police in Intelligence Branch, West Bengal, was deployed at the spot and he was allegedly called by the BJP supporters Khalistani when he stopped them from entering strife-torn Sandeshkhali.

In an attempt to voice his side of the story, Singh gave an interview to a local Punjabi news channel where he confirmed that it was Adhikari, who called him Khalistani leading to provocation (we have not confirmed the authenticity of the video).

“I was doing my duty, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari called me Khalistani for not allowing him to enter the village. I was a lone Sikh, who was posted at the spot. I immediately retaliated which pushed the BJP leaders on the backfoot. I will not tolerate this unparliamentary language against a police officer on duty,” said Singh to the local channel. He is rendering his services to the nation for the past seven years who confirms of never been subjected to such bigotry in the past.

He, further, added: “I have a video where Suvendu is seen calling me Khalistani. I can even share the same when required. I have not received any formal apology from the BJP leaders at the state or national level, yet. However, irrespective of this, I shall continue to serve the nation.”

The interview is going viral in the state and Trinamool Congress leaders are endorsing it, eyeing political motives. However, no statement has come from the BJP in this regard. They are denying of making any such remark against the IPS officer.
