A proposed agreement between Iran and the United States aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in West Asia could be signed in Europe within days, with reports suggesting the deal would include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, extending the ceasefire and establishing a framework for further nuclear negotiations.

According to multiple media reports citing diplomatic sources, Geneva is being considered as the venue for signing a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington. The agreement is expected to mark the beginning of a new phase of diplomatic engagement focused on implementing the proposed settlement.

The development follows remarks by US President Donald Trump, who said a "great settlement" had been reached and indicated that final documentation could be completed within days.

"We just made a great settlement of the war with Iran, and we're going to be subject to finalisation of documents," Trump told reporters at the White House, adding that a signing ceremony could take place in Europe and may be attended by Vice President JD Vance.

Hormuz reopening, ceasefire extension on the cards

According to diplomatic sources, the proposed arrangement includes a 60-day ceasefire across all fronts, including Lebanon, beginning immediately after the agreement is signed.

The deal would also provide for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without transit charges and the gradual restoration of maritime traffic to pre-conflict levels within 30 days. The strategic waterway is a critical route for global energy supplies and commercial shipping.

Reports further suggest the agreement could include limited sanctions relief and the lifting of restrictions on Iranian ports, subject to continued compliance and progress in negotiations.

Iran denies final agreement

Despite reports of a breakthrough, Iran has denied that a final deal has been concluded.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei described claims of a completed agreement as "speculation" and said no final understanding had yet been reached.

According to Iranian state media, Baghaei maintained that while much of the draft text had been discussed, the United States had repeatedly altered its position during negotiations.

He reiterated that Tehran would not compromise on issues it considers its "red lines".

Pakistan and Qatar are reported to have continued playing mediation roles in the talks. Pakistan's Foreign Ministry welcomed recent diplomatic progress and expressed hope that sustained engagement would lead to a peaceful and durable resolution.
