Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Thursday that the administration and security forces will prevent any resurgence of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

He also urged the people to support these efforts.

Speaking at the 78th Independence Day celebration at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, LG Sinha emphasised that the Union Territory administration and security forces are dedicated to stopping any attempts by neighbouring countries to rekindle terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

He urged the people to unite with the security forces to eliminate terrorism from the region.

Sinha highlighted that recent terror attacks in the Jammu region have resulted in significant casualties among security personnel.

Just a day before, an Army captain and a foreign terrorist were killed in an encounter in Assar, Doda, where counter-terror operations are continuing.

LG Sinha commended the Jammu and Kashmir police for receiving numerous gallantry medals, recognising their professional efforts on multiple fronts.

He said that “in the past five years, the administration has worked tirelessly to foster development in the Union Territory, ensuring that previously marginalised groups such as SC, ST, OBC, Valmikis, and PoJK-WPRs, now enjoy full voting rights and a dignified life.”

Sinha also mentioned the positive impact of the G-20 meeting held in Srinagar in May 2023, which led to a significant increase in tourism.

He noted that 2.11 crore tourists visited Jammu and Kashmir last year, and over 1 crore tourists had already visited by June 30 of this year. He expressed optimism that the year would end with record tourist arrivals.

For the first time, the Amarnath cave shrine and Gurez have been connected to the power grid.

Sinha also announced that the Jammu and Kashmir Industrial Policy will be renewed by the end of the year.

Requests had been made to the Government of India to make the new policy more industry-friendly.

Additionally, Sinha highlighted that in 2019, J&K Bank was incurring losses, but through diligent efforts, it has now become a profitable institution, serving as a "people's bank."
