Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh underscored that US President Donald Trump has once again taken credit for putting an end to India-Pakistan violence a total of 22 times in 65 days. "65 days. 22 times. The same boast. It keeps getting repeated." Ramesh took to X on Tuesday.

Jairam Ramesh has repeatedly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not publicly denying Donald Trump's repeated assertions of halting the recent India-Pakistan violence. His comment comes amidst Trump on Monday again saying same during his meeting with the NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte.

"We have done very well in ending wars, India, Pakistan… India, incidentally, Pakistan would have been a nuclear war in another week, the way that was going. It was going very badly," Trump said.

He referred to his policy of employing trade as leverage, saying, "We did that through trade. I said, we are not going to talk to you about trade, unless you get this thing settled, and they did."

When Donald Trump had made the similar assertion on July 8 during an encounter with journalists, PM Modi was criticised by Jairam Ramesh for failing to contradict him

"President Trump has boasted all this at the same time as declaring that a US trade agreement with India and Pakistan would be announced very shortly. When will Narendra Modi, who was once called the BJP's 'trump card' by his colleague Ghanshyam Tiwari, come out from under his silence on this question?"

India has denied the allegations made by the US President, confirming its stance that India and Pakistan handle any issue related to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir bilaterally.

"As you are well aware, we have an abiding national position that any matter concerning the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir must be resolved by India and Pakistan between them. That said policy remains unchanged. As you are also well aware, the outstanding issue is vacation by Pakistan of illegally occupied Indian Territory," the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The MEA also informed that the "question of trade" had not arisen between Indian and US leaders since the launch of 'Operation Sindoor' and the end of hostilities.

India initiated Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7 and struck terror installations in Pakistan and PoJK as a retaliation against the Pahalgam terror strike in which 26 civilians were killed. India fended off later Pakistani military actions and bombed its airbases.
India and Pakistan agreed to a halt in hostilities after a request by Pakistan's DGMO to his Indian counterpart.
