The External Affairs Minister had on Monday conducted in-depth talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing and discussed the requirement for a far-sighted approach to bilateral relations.
In an X posting, Jaishankar said was confident that relations can evolve on a positive path on the basis of mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity.
"Had extensive discussions with Politburo Member and FM Wang Yi in Beijing tonight. Discussed the importance of taking a long-term perspective to bilateral relations and creating a stable & constructive relationship. It is up to us to deal with issues that pertain to the border, normalisation of people-to-people ties and the avoidance of restrictive trade measures & roadblocks," he stated.
"Hopeful that on the basis of mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity, relationships can take a positive path. Looking forward to participating in the SCO Foreign Ministers Meeting in Tianjin tomorrow. India is dedicated to ensuring positive outcomes and decisions," he said.
In his initial address during meeting with Wang Yi, Jaishankar stated that India and China have made positive progress over the last nine months for the normalisation of bilateral relationships due to easing of tension along the border in eastern Ladakh.
It is now up to the two sides to focus on other dimensions concerning the border. He also urged avoiding quantitative restrictions on trade and roadblocks are evaded.
