Jewar Airport to Be Renamed Narendra Modi International Airport

The Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh has been renamed Narendra Modi International Airport, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Friday.

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the proposal to name the facility Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar. Adityanath said the Council of Ministers had expressed its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the airport, which he described as a major gift to the state.

According to the chief minister, the airport is expected to become Uttar Pradesh’s largest airport and develop into a significant aviation hub for the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport on March 28 this year. Its first flight landing took place on June 15, when an IndiGo aircraft arrived from Lucknow.

The airport has been developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Swiss company Zurich Airport International AG, in partnership with Noida International Airport Limited. The latter is implementing the project on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government.

The first phase was constructed at a cost of Rs 11,282 crore and has an initial annual handling capacity of 1.2 crore passengers. This capacity can be expanded to 7 crore passengers within a few years.

The facility includes a 3,900-metre runway designed to accommodate wide-body aircraft, along with modern navigation systems. Its development has been planned around a multimodal transport hub, linking air services with road and other forms of connectivity.

The airport also incorporates advanced security features for the protection of passengers and infrastructure. Its single runway has Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) installed at both ends, enabling aircraft to approach from either direction based on prevailing wind conditions.
