The Jharkhand Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), which is investigating the Jharkhand module of the terrorist organisation 'Hizb ut Tahrir', has arrested a suspected terrorist who was previously associated with the Indian Mujahideen.
The ATS apprehended Ammar Yashar, an Indian Mujahideen terrorist, from the Shamsher Nagar area under Bhuli OP in Dhanbad. Ayan Javed, a member of the terrorist organisation Hizb ut Tahrir, who was earlier remanded to ATS custody, provided the information during interrogation.
Javed also revealed further details to the ATS, following which several suspicious documents were seized from Ammar Yashar, who has links to the banned organisation.
Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta said that Ammar Yashar had previously been arrested in 2014 from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, as a suspected member of the Indian Mujahideen.
After being released from prison in 2024, Yashar allegedly resumed involvement in terrorist activities. This time, he was reportedly engaged in anti-national activities through his association with Hizb ut Tahrir.
Gupta added that the Jharkhand ATS conducted raids in various areas of Alipur in Dhanbad and arrested Gulfam Hasan (21), Aayan Javed (21) from Azad Nagar Aman Society in Bhuli, his wife Shabnam Parveen (20) from Shamsher Nagar Street No. 3, and Mohammad Shahzad Alam (20).
During the raids, two pistols, 12 bullets, several books and documents related to banned organisations, along with more than half a dozen mobile phones and laptops, were recovered from the accused.
Hizb ut Tahrir, a terrorist organisation, was established in Jerusalem in 1953. Its stated aim is to establish a Caliphate or Islamic State globally. The Government of India banned Hizb ut Tahrir in 2010.
The primary objective of this organisation is to radicalise youth and encourage them to join various terrorist groups. It works to overthrow democratically elected governments and establish an Islamic nation and Caliphate in India and across the world through extremist activities.
