Job aspirants protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations in Jharkhand have announced plans to gherao Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s official residence on August 20, while demanding his resignation and a probe into the alleged irregularities.

 

The announcement came on Saturday, the 22nd day of the students’ indefinite protest, as demonstrators took out a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Ranchi.

 

Piyush Singh, spokesperson for the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, said the protesters had so far pursued their demands through peaceful means but were now seeking accountability from the state government.

 

“We have been pleading with the government in a Gandhian way till now. But our demands have been falling on deaf ears,” Singh said.

 

He said the protesters would march to the chief minister’s residence on August 20 and remain there until their demands were addressed.

 

The students are seeking cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination and a CBI probe into alleged irregularities. They have also demanded an inquiry by a panel of retired judges from outside Jharkhand.

 

The protesters have accused the state government of failing to act on their concerns over recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

 

Ravindra Paswan, another leader of the protest, said the students were also demanding Soren’s resignation, alleging that both the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Congress were playing politics over the issue.

 

The protesters further called on the Congress to withdraw its support from the JMM-led coalition if the chief minister failed to address their demands.

 

The students’ latest announcement follows weeks of protests over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. The indefinite strike has entered its 22nd day, with the demonstrators maintaining pressure on the state government for an independent investigation.

 

The ‘Tiranga Yatra’ was organised as part of the ongoing agitation. The protest also comes amid controversy over the police stopping student leader Devendra Nath Mahto from participating in the procession.

 

The protesters have maintained that they will continue their agitation until the government agrees to their demands for an independent probe and action over the alleged examination irregularities.
