Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari has pledged to donate four months' salary to support the families affected by the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Making the announcement on his X handle, Ansari described the attack as not merely an assault on humanity but a blow to the very spirit of India and its people.
"The terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam is an attack on the soul of India and on every Indian. It has left me deeply shaken. As a tribute to the martyrs, I will be donating four months of my salary to their families," he posted.
Expressing solidarity with the grieving families, he added, "It is my moral responsibility to stand by the bereaved in their time of sorrow. The sacrifice of these martyrs is beyond any value, and my heart aches for their loved ones."
The Pahalgam attack, which took place on Tuesday, resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, most of them tourists, marking the deadliest terror strike in the Valley since the Pulwama attack in 2019.
Ansari, who often finds himself in the news for his controversial remarks, had recently stirred debate by opposing the implementation of the Waqf Board Act in Jharkhand. He openly challenged the central government, declaring that he would not allow the Act to take effect in the state.
Criticising the Modi-led BJP government, Ansari accused it of systematically targeting Muslims through various measures, including the NRC, triple talaq legislation, and the Waqf Board Act.
During a public rally on 10 April, he remarked, "The BJP is acting like a demon, attempting to devour our rights and entitlements. I pray that these fools are guided back to humanity."
Despite his strong identity as a Muslim leader, Ansari often refers to himself as a "Hanuman" loyal to Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
