Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren today transferred ₹1415.44 crore into the bank accounts of lakhs of women under the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Mainiya Samman Yojana (JMMSY) during a grand function held near Ranchi.
A total of ₹2500 was sent to the accounts of 56,61,791 women. Under this scheme, Rs 30,000 will be provided annually to women aged between 18 and 50 years.
After the honourarium was transferred to the women, Soren fiercely criticised the opposition. He remarked that when the initial announcement was made to provide ₹1000 under the JMMSY, the opposition mocked them, questioning where the money would come from.
He added, “When we decided to increase the amount from ₹1000 to ₹2500, they mocked me once again, challenging us to explain where we would source the funds.”
Soren reiterated that they had fulfilled their first promise made during the elections. He emphasised that any party in the state or the country that disregards women would never come to power.
“We appeal to the women who run their own groups to consider depositing ₹500 or ₹1000, instead of just ₹50 or ₹100, into these groups to strengthen their financial standing. They should use this money to meet their own and their children’s needs,” he said.
During the programme, Soren interacted with several women, asking them about the utility of the funds and advising them to spend the money wisely.
