The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Justice Manmohan as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India. The recommendation was made on November 28, 2024, under the leadership of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna.
This decision comes at a time when the Supreme Court's current strength stands at 32 judges, two short of its sanctioned capacity of 34. If approved by the Law Ministry, the appointment of Justice Manmohan will raise the strength to 33.
Justice Manmohan was recently appointed as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on September 21, 2024, and assumed office on September 29, 2024.

His legal journey began in 1987 when he enrolled as an advocate and built a distinguished practice in civil, criminal, constitutional, taxation, arbitration, and service-related matters, primarily before the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court.
Over time, he also served as a Senior Panel Advocate for the Government of India in both the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court.
After establishing himself as a prominent legal practitioner, Justice Manmohan was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court in January 2003.
His judicial career commenced when he was appointed an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on March 13, 2008. Subsequently, he was made a Permanent Judge of the Delhi High Court on December 17, 2009.
Justice Manmohan’s elevation to the Supreme Court, if finalized, will add to his already remarkable legal and judicial career. The move comes in the backdrop of recent retirements of Justice Hima Kohli and former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, which created vacancies in the apex court.
