As Kanwar Yatra 2025, the yearly pilgrimage by devotees of Lord Shiva is set to take place across Northern India, starting from Friday, all arrangements have been set in place in various states where it is set to enter. While Delhi Police has issued traffic advisory, the administration has also undertaken various steps including mandatory QR code stickers for eateries, drones to monitor the pilgrims, and zero tolerance for meat and alcohol.
The group of Kanwariyas is expected to enter Delhi from Wazirabad Road, GT Road, Loni Road, NH-24, Road Number 56, Kalindi Kunj Road, Mathura Road, Ring Road, ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Rani Jhansi Road, Ridge Road, and Dhaula Kuan.Around 15 major routes in Delhi are expected to face traffic congestion on Friday as over 20 lakh ‘Kanwars’ are expected to flock to the capital as part of the annual pilgrimage that began on Friday, a Delhi Traffic Police advisory said. The authorities have also imposed traffic diversions for heavy vehicles in the NCR region.
The routes expected to face traffic congestion are Najafgarh Phirni, Rohtak Road, Pankha Road, Dev Prakash Shastri Marg, Nangloi-Najafgarh Road, Outer Ring Road, Rani Jhansi Road from Baraf Khana Chowk to Fire Station, Boulevard Road, and at Azad Market Chowk, Gokul Puri Fly Over, 66 Foota Road, Maujpur Chowk, Badarpur T Point, and Mathura Road. Similarly, traffic congestion will be experienced on NH-08 from Dhaula Kuan Metro Station up to Rajokri Border.
The advisory will be in place till July 23, when the pilgrimage of Shiva devotees concludes, said the police.A massive crowd of devotees, who travel to the Ganga river to collect the scared Gangajal and bring it back to their local Shiva temples, are expected in Delhi from various borders.
Traffic Police Advisory also suggests a list of routes to avoid during Kanwar Yatra movement which include Maharajpur Border or Ghazipur Border with Haryana via Road No. 56, Ghazipur roundabout, NH-24, Ring Road and Mathura Road via Badarpur Border, Kalindi Kunj via Mathura Road via Badarpur Border, ISBT on Ring Road via Majnu Ka Tila and Mukarba Chowk and NH-1 towards Singhu Border or Tikri Border.
The Ghaziabad traffic police and district administration have imposed strict traffic restrictions on heavy vehicles across Delhi-NCR, starting from 10 pm tonight to ensure smooth passage and safety for the annual Kanwar Yatra. These measures will remain in place until July 25, covering major routes like the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Meerut Road, and New Link Road, according to a report by Jagran.
