Kapil Sibal slams PM for 'jail' barb at Tejashwi

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Sunday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his veiled 'jail' swipe at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and claimed that this was a "confession" that probe agencies were acting at the PM's behest.

At his press conference Kapil Sibal also released a chart for counting agents of political parties to ensure there has been no tampering with EVMs.

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal launched scathing criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, alleging that recent comments made by the PM were indicative of undue influence over investigative agencies.

Speaking at a press conference, Sibal condemned Modi's veiled reference to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav's potential incarceration and his'mujra' remark, stating that such rhetoric not only violated the model code of conduct but also degraded the dignity of the Prime Minister's office.

"The Prime Minister's office holds a position of dignity. To stoop to such levels of discourse is not only disrespectful but also sets a precedent for hate culture," said Sibal, an Independent Rajya Sabha MP.

Sibal also accused the Election Commission of turning a blind eye to such violations, asserting that they were "hand in glove" with the Prime Minister.

"He is insinuating jail for Tejashwi Yadav without due legal process. This hints at the agencies working at his direction—a confession in itself," Sibal remarked, highlighting concerns over the state of democratic processes.

Modi's recent rally speech in Karakat, where he assured Bihar residents of Yadav's impending imprisonment, drew particular ire from Sibal, who deemed it a violation of the model code of conduct.

Meanwhile, Sibal urged vigilance during the upcoming election counting process, advocating for stringent scrutiny of electronic voting machines (EVMs) to ensure transparency.

At his press conference Sibal also released a chart for counting agents of political parties to ensure there has been no tampering with EVMs.

"All political parties and counting agents must adhere to procedures to prevent tampering," Sibal emphasised, urging thorough checks of EVMs on June 4.

As the Lok Sabha polls progressed, Sibal noted a disparity between the nation's desire for change and the incumbent government's reluctance to acknowledge it.
