The recent Delhi Assembly elections have brought forth a mix of notable winners, ranging from the wealthiest candidates to the youngest and the ones with pending criminal cases.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Karnail Singh has emerged as the richest winner, while Umang Bajaj is the youngest among the victors.
Karnail Singh, who secured victory from the Shakur Basti constituency, has declared assets worth ₹259 crore.
He is followed closely by Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden, whose assets stand at ₹248 crore, and Parvesh Sahib Singh from New Delhi, who has declared ₹115 crore in assets. Their financial standing has made them the wealthiest winners of this election.
At just 31 years old, BJP’s Umang Bajaj has made history as the youngest winning candidate. He won the Rajinder Nagar seat, marking a significant political milestone in his career.
Meanwhile, the oldest contestant in the election was Tilak Ram Gupta, aged 73, who secured victory from the Tri Nagar constituency. His win highlights the continuing influence of seasoned politicians in Delhi’s electoral landscape.
The election also saw several candidates with pending criminal cases emerging victorious. According to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms, Aam Aadmi Party’s Amanatullah Khan from Okhla has the highest number of criminal cases against him, with a total of 19.
Kuldeep Kumar from Kondli has seven cases, while Jarnail Singh from Tilak Nagar and Sanjeev Jha from Burari have four and two cases, respectively.
From the BJP, Manjinder Singh Sirsa has five pending cases, and Parvesh Verma has one. Despite these legal challenges, both candidates managed to secure strong victories.
Verma’s win was particularly notable, as he defeated AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency by a margin of 4,089 votes.
Sirsa secured his Rajouri Garden seat with a comfortable lead of 18,190 votes, while Tilak Ram Gupta won in Tri Nagar by 15,896 votes. The youngest winner, Umang Bajaj, won by a margin of 1,231 votes, demonstrating a strong start to his political journey.
Among AAP candidates, Amanatullah Khan retained the Okhla seat with a commanding lead of 23,639 votes. Jarnail Singh won in Tilak Nagar by 11,656 votes, while Sanjeev Jha emerged victorious in Burari with a margin of 20,601 votes.
