In an announcement coinciding with the auspicious Mahashivratri celebrations, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) declared the reopening of the Kedarnath Dham pilgrimage for devotees on May 10th this year. The gates of the revered Himalayan shrine will open at 7 am, commencing the Char Dham yatra season.
BKTC chairman Ajendra Ajay, officiating at the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, conveyed the decision to a gathering of devotees. The temple, usually blanketed in snow during winter, observes an annual closure during this period.
Addressing the congregation, Ajay greeted them on the occasion of Mahashivratri and expressed delight at the record pilgrim turnout witnessed during the last yatra season. He went on to assure an even greater influx of devotees this year.
"The state government, under the esteemed leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and the temple committee are steadfast in their commitment to enhancing pilgrim amenities," declared the chairman. He added that a BKTC team would soon be visiting the shrine to assess preparations for the upcoming yatra.
Present at the Mahashivratri ceremony at the Omkareshwar temple were Vice President of the Frontier Development Council, Chandi Prasad Bhatt Pachgai, and the chief priest of Kedarnath Dham, Rawal Bhimashankar Ling.
