The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to stage a daylong collective fast today (April 7) to protest the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an excise policy-linked money laundering case.
As part of this demonstration, party leaders and workers will convene at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and Khatkar Kalan in Punjab, the ancestral village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, to undertake a mass fast, announced Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai.
Addressing a press conference earlier this week, Rai, also the Delhi state convener of AAP, outlined that the collective fast would commence from 10 am onwards on Sunday.
AAP MLAs, MPs, office bearers, alongside party workers and supporters, are expected to participate in this protest.
The nationwide collective fast aims to garner maximum public support for Kejriwal's cause, Rai stressed.
He urged individuals opposed to Kejriwal's arrest, advocating for the preservation of democracy and the cessation of injustice and dictatorship, to observe collective fasts in their homes, communities, and administrative centres.
Rai further encouraged people to engage in collective prayer or listen to the devotional song "Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram" on YouTube.
"Together, we will pray for Kejriwal's strength and resilience against tyranny during his incarceration. Let us unite to unearth the truth," he added.
Additionally, Rai urged individuals to share their photographs on the website kejriwalkoaashirvaad.com, highlighting that Kejriwal's battle transcends personal interests.
"His struggle is emblematic of our collective fight to safeguard democracy and resist authoritarianism," he asserted.
Kejriwal's arrest by the ED last month in connection with an excise policy-related money laundering case has thrust him into judicial custody until April 15.
