Kejriwal faces fresh trouble ahead of crucial Delhi elections.

A day before the Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal has been booked in Haryana over his remarks alleging that the state government had “poisoned” the Yamuna water.

Police confirmed that a case was registered against him following court directions.

Officials stated that Kejriwal has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (BNS), 2024, including Sections 192, 196, 197, and 299, at Shahabad Police Station in Haryana’s Kurukshetra. The case was filed after a court order, and an investigation is now underway.

Shahabad Station House Officer (SHO) Satish Kumar confirmed that the police had begun gathering evidence and that further action would be taken accordingly.

The case comes just ahead of the crucial Delhi elections, intensifying the political battle between AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Reacting to the FIR, Minister of State Harsh Malhotra accused Kejriwal of attempting to divert attention from pressing governance issues.

He criticised AAP for failing to deliver on its promises and claimed that Kejriwal’s remarks were politically motivated. Malhotra further alleged that AAP had no real achievements to highlight in its 10-year rule and was instead resorting to blame games.

During his election campaign, Kejriwal accused the BJP-led Haryana government of contaminating Yamuna water to create a health crisis in Delhi, claiming that the state government intended to shift the blame onto AAP.

He alleged that ammonia levels in the water had been rising sharply since mid-January, reaching dangerously high levels.

Kejriwal also wrote to the Election Commission, urging action against Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. He claimed that the raw water supplied from Haryana to Delhi was severely polluted, with ammonia levels spiking to 7 ppm—far beyond safe limits.

In response, Chief Minister Saini dismissed the allegations and countered that the Delhi government had failed to manage its own water treatment infrastructure. He stated that the central government had allocated ₹8,500 crore for a sewage treatment plant, which was not built by AAP.

To prove his point, Saini presented two samples of Yamuna water—one collected from the Haryana-Delhi border at Palla Ghat and another from Wazirabad in Delhi.

He claimed that the water quality significantly deteriorated after entering Delhi, suggesting that pollution was happening within the capital rather than in Haryana.

The controversy has added further tension ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for Wednesday. The BJP and AAP have been locked in a fierce political battle, with governance, corruption allegations, and water supply issues becoming key points of contention.
