Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that he will lead a march to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence on Tuesday to submit petitions opposing the Centre's E20 petrol policy.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said around 100 people would participate in the march, during which memorandums against the rollout of E20 petrol would be handed over to the Prime Minister. He has been criticising the policy, alleging that it would increase fuel costs and place an additional financial burden on vehicle owners.
The announcement comes amid heightened political activity in the national capital following the conclusion of the month-long anti-NEET agitation at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
During the same press conference, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke said the organisation would expand its team in the coming days, claiming that the recent protests had increased its responsibilities.
Dipke alleged that education in India had become unaffordable and inaccessible for ordinary citizens and said the movement launched during the NEET paper leak protests would continue beyond Jantar Mantar.
His remarks came as the Supreme Court agreed to hear a public interest litigation questioning the suitability of Jantar Mantar as Delhi's designated protest venue. The plea contends that prolonged demonstrations at the site inconvenience local residents and disrupt traffic and the supply of essential goods.
The anti-NEET protests at Jantar Mantar witnessed thousands of students and parents demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities. The agitation culminated in clashes between protesters and police during a march towards Parliament on July 20 before being called off after the Centre accepted key demands, including the resignation of the Union education minister.
Kejriwal's proposed march is expected to add to the political activity in the capital, with Delhi Police likely to make elaborate security arrangements around the Prime Minister's residence.
