Kejriwal calls for urgent talks with Amit Shah on Delhi's Law and Order situation.

Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener, has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting a meeting to discuss the growing concerns regarding law and order in the national capital.

In his letter, Kejriwal highlighted the alarming increase in crime rates in Delhi, especially in areas such as crimes against women, murders, and drug-related incidents, urging Shah to address the situation urgently.

Kejriwal pointed out that although Delhi’s law and order fall under the jurisdiction of the central government, the city is increasingly being referred to as the “crime capital” not only in India but also abroad.

He cited worrying statistics, such as Delhi’s top rank in crimes against women and murders among 19 major metro cities in India. The AAP leader also raised concerns about the rise of extortion gangs, bomb threats at airports and schools, and the sharp 350 per cent increase in drug-related crimes.

In his letter, Kejriwal emphasised the growing security concerns among Delhi residents. He stated, “Delhi’s law and order is under the Central Government, but Delhi is now being known as the capital of crime.”

He went on to point out that Delhi ranks first in crimes against women and murder cases, with extortion gangs actively operating across the city. He also referred to the rising frequency of bomb threats at airports and schools, which have caused significant anxiety among the public.

Additionally, Kejriwal stressed the alarming surge in drug-related crimes, which he said had increased by 350 per cent, further exacerbating concerns over public safety.

The AAP convener’s letter comes amidst growing criticism of the current government’s handling of Delhi’s law and order situation. Earlier in the week, Kejriwal had accused Amit Shah and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of failing to maintain control over the capital’s security.

He stated, “Amit Shah ji has ruined Delhi. He has turned Delhi into a jungle raj. People are living a life of terror everywhere. BJP is no longer able to handle the law and order situation in Delhi. The people of Delhi will have to unite and raise their voices.”

In another tweet, Kejriwal highlighted the increasing audacity of criminals in Delhi, stating that criminals no longer fear the law. “Another morning with heartbreaking news. Bullets are being fired openly. Delhi’s criminals no longer have any fear of law and order,” he wrote, further emphasising the deteriorating security environment.

The AAP has been vocal in its criticism of the current government, with several of its Members of Parliament (MPs) giving suspension of business notices in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

The party has repeatedly demanded a discussion on the declining law and order situation, the rise in crimes, and the threats faced by elected representatives in Delhi.

The security situation in Delhi reached a new low earlier this week when several schools received bomb threats. In response, Kejriwal once again targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah, questioning the government’s efforts to ensure the safety of Delhi’s residents. “What measures are being taken for people’s safety?” he asked, referring to the bomb threats and the growing number of incidents affecting public security.

He also pointed out that it is the responsibility of the central government to provide adequate security to the people of Delhi, pressing Shah to clarify whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the threats.
