Kejriwal writes to EC seeking action against BJP

Kejriwal blames BJP for unlawful detentions of AAP workers.

As the Delhi assembly elections approach, Arvind Kejriwal, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has written a letter to the Election Commission, strongly criticising Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his alleged role in instigating attacks on AAP workers.

The AAP leader has called for independent observers to be appointed in the New Delhi constituency, where he is contesting against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit.

In the letter, Kejriwal accuses the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of resorting to violence due to the growing influence of AAP ahead of the election. He claims that BJP workers have been attacking AAP volunteers in a desperate attempt to prevent the party from gaining further momentum in the upcoming polls.

Kejriwal's remarks were backed by several instances of alleged assaults on AAP members, which he highlighted during a press conference on Sunday morning.

The AAP leader pointed out an incident where Sanjay Singh, an AAP Member of Parliament, was reportedly harassed by BJP workers while campaigning in a door-to-door drive at Parliament Street.

Singh was allegedly heckled by BJP supporters while he addressed the media. Additionally, Kejriwal referred to an assault on AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal during a rally in Rohini on Saturday, further strengthening his claims of BJP's violent tactics.

Kejriwal’s letter to the Election Commission also included allegations of unlawful detentions of AAP volunteers, aimed at discouraging their participation in the election process.

He stated that one of his senior party volunteers was detained under Section 126 of the BNSS at Tilak Marg police station on unfounded charges.

According to Kejriwal, these actions are part of an orchestrated effort by the BJP to intimidate grassroots-level workers, with the intention of stifling the party’s campaign.

In the face of these allegations, Kejriwal demanded that action be taken against those responsible for the violence, including the arrest of BJP workers involved in the attacks and the suspension of police officials who may have been complicit in the unlawful detentions.

He has also reiterated the need for independent observers in New Delhi to ensure a fair election process, particularly in light of the alleged attempts to undermine AAP’s efforts through violence and intimidation.

As tensions rise in the capital, the situation continues to escalate. Kejriwal’s letter and the press conference serve as a sharp rebuke to the BJP’s handling of the election process and its tactics in the lead-up to the polls.

The AAP leader’s demands for swift action from the Election Commission signal the seriousness with which his party is addressing these challenges.
