AISSC Delegation Discusses Waqf Property Reforms with Rijiju.

On Monday evening, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju met with a delegation from the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council (AISSC). The delegation, led by Syed Naseruddin Chishty, Chairman and Successor of the current spiritual head of Ajmer Dargah, included prominent Sajjadanashins from various Dargahs across India. The meeting was a significant discussion on several key issues affecting the Muslim community.

Kiren Rijiju took to social media to share details of the meeting. He highlighted that the discussion was both fruitful and forward-looking. The delegation expressed their appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts towards the welfare of the entire community and minorities in general. They also reaffirmed their commitment to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, reflecting their support for the government's developmental goals.

The meeting was also attended by BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, adding further significance to the discussion.

During the meeting, Rijiju acknowledged the persistent demands from poor and ordinary Muslim women for better management of Waqf properties. They have been advocating for greater transparency, efficiency, and benefits from these properties.

Government sources indicated that the upcoming bill, expected to be presented after the Finance Bill's passage this week, includes key amendments aimed at addressing these concerns.

One of the primary proposed changes is the mandatory registration of Waqf properties with the District Collector’s office. This step is designed to facilitate proper evaluation and oversight of these properties. Additionally, the amendments seek to improve inclusivity by ensuring women are represented on both the Central Waqf Council and state Waqf boards.

The government has consulted various Muslim intellectuals and organisations to ensure that these reforms are comprehensive and address the needs of the community effectively. These amendments are part of a broader effort to reform the management of Waqf properties and enhance their benefit to the Muslim community.
