Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra took a jibe at the Mumbai Police after officers reportedly visited an address in Dadar where he has not lived for the past decade.
The police had reached the location on Monday in connection with an ongoing investigation into his alleged disparaging remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Kamra shared a post on his official ‘X’ handle, criticising the police for their visit, calling it a waste of time and public resources. "Going to an address where I haven’t lived for the last 10 years is a waste of your time & public resources…", his post read.
The case against Kamra stems from multiple complaints filed over his alleged remarks about the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister. Three separate FIRs were lodged at Khar police station, with complaints coming from Jalgaon Mayor, a hotelier, and a businessman from Nashik, as per the Mumbai Police.
Despite being summoned for questioning twice by Khar police, Kamra has yet to appear for interrogation.
On 27 March, the Mumbai Police issued a fresh summon, directing him to appear at Khar police station on 31 March for further questioning. This marks the third summon issued in a case filed by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.
Meanwhile, Kamra had approached the Madras High Court, seeking transit anticipatory bail after receiving multiple threats following his satirical comments. On 28 March, Justice Sunder Mohan of the Madras High Court granted him interim anticipatory bail until 7 April, with specific conditions.
As the legal proceedings continue, Kamra’s remarks and his refusal to appear before the police have sparked political and legal discussions, further intensifying the controversy surrounding his statements.
