Leaders greet nation on Navratri, Hindu New Year celeb

PM Modi, President Murmu, and ministers extended Navratri, Ugadi greetings, highlighting India's cultural diversity. The celebrations include special spiritual programmes and a grand Ram Janmotsav event in Ayodhya.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with President Droupadi Murmu and senior ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah conveyed wishes, marking the festive spirit across the country.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with President Droupadi Murmu and senior ministers, on Sunday extended warm greetings to the nation on the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Navratri, Hindu New Year (Nav Samvatsar), and Ugadi.

 

Various cultural and spiritual programmes have been planned, including a grand Ram Janmotsav celebration from Ayodhya, to mark the festivities.

 

"Best wishes to the countrymen on Navratri. May this holy festival of Shakti-sadhana fill everyone's life with courage, restraint and strength. Jai Mata Di," the Prime Minister wrote on X.

 

He described Navratri as the festival of "Shakti and Sadhana" and shared a hymn by the renowned classical singer Pandit Jasraj, dedicated to the goddess.

 

 

He further stated, "The beginning of Navratri awakens a new zeal of devotion in the worshippers of the mother goddess. This hymn by Pandit Jasraj dedicated to the worship of the mother goddess is going to mesmerise everyone."

 

Extending his wishes on Nav Samvatsar, he added, "Many best wishes to all countrymen on the occasion of Nav Samvatsar. May this auspicious occasion bring new enthusiasm in the life of all of you, which will also fill new energy in the resolve of a developed India."

 

Modi also extended greetings on Ugadi, marking the Telugu and Kannada New Year, celebrated in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. "This is a special festival, associated with hope and vibrancy. I pray that this new year brings joy, prosperity and success in everyone's lives. May the spirit of happiness and harmony continue to grow and flourish," he wrote.

 

Navratri, meaning 'nine nights' in Sanskrit, is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga and her nine incarnations, collectively known as Navdurga.

 

It is observed four times a year, but Chaitra Navratri and Shardiya Navratri are the most widely celebrated as they coincide with seasonal transitions. 

 

The festival culminates in Ram Navami, marking the birth of Lord Ram.

 

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended his greetings on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Cheti Chand and Sajibu Cheiraoba, emphasising India's cultural diversity.

 

"These festivals reflect the rich cultural diversity of our great nation, uniting us in joy, harmony and shared prosperity. May this new year bring peace, happiness and progress for all," Singh stated on X. He also extended his wishes on Chaitra Navratri, saying, "Happy Chaitra Navratri to you all. May Maa Durga infuse new energy and power in your lives. Jai Mata Di!."

 

 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his greetings on Ugadi, Chetichand, Vikram Samvat, Gudi Padwa, and Chaitra Navratri.

 

"Heartiest greetings to all the sisters and brothers of the Sindhi community on the birth anniversary of Lord Jhulelal ji and 'Chetichand' festival. Bhagwan Jhulelal Ji, who gave the message of mutual brotherhood and love, showed the way to put humanity first. I wish that Bhagwan Jhulelal Ji brings happiness, prosperity and well-being in everyone's life," he posted.

 

On Vikram Samvat, Shah wrote, "Heartiest greetings to all countrymen on 'Hindu New Year - Vikram Samvat 2082'. This New Year is a new beginning of rituals, resolutions and cultural consciousness. May this year, full of new enthusiasm and new opportunities, infuse new energy in everyone's life and bring success and prosperity, this is my best wish."

 

 

President Droupadi Murmu, in a message conveyed by the President's Secretariat, also extended her greetings to fellow citizens.

 

"On the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Cheti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all fellow citizens," she said.

 

She emphasised that these festivals, marking the onset of spring, symbolise new beginnings and highlight India's cultural richness.

 

"These festivals showcase our cultural diversity and promote social cohesion. During these festivals, we celebrate the joy of new harvest and express our gratitude to nature," the President stated.

 

She added, "On these pious occasions, let us strengthen the spirit of harmony and unity and work with renewed energy to take our nation to new heights."

Meanwhile, Akashvani's Aradhana YouTube Channel will present a series of special programmes from March 30 to April 6 in celebration of Navratri.

 

According to a release by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, "To commemorate each day's significance, the channel will feature a specially curated series from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Additionally, Shakti Aradhana will be broadcast daily from 8:30 AM to 8:40 AM, bringing divine renditions to the audience."

 

A special highlight will be Navratri Bhajans performed by celebrated artists such as Anup Jalota, Narinder Chanchal, Jagjit Singh, Hari Om Sharan, Mahendra Kapoor, and Anuradha Paudwal, which will air from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM daily.

 

The series "Devi Maa Ke Anek Swaroop," narrating inspiring stories of Navratri, will be aired from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. Additionally, special features on various Shakti Peeths across India will be presented, offering deeper insights into sacred sites dedicated to Goddess Durga.

 

The Navratri festivities will culminate in a grand live broadcast of Ram Janmotsav from Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya on April 6, from 11:45 AM to 12:15 PM, bringing the divine celebrations to audiences across the nation.
