In a setback to the Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Saturday gave a green signal to the Enforcement Directorate to prosecute Kejriwal in excise policy scam case, official reports said.

The approval by LG follows a request by the ED made on December 5 to Delhi's Chief Secretary Dharmendra, who also serves as the Chief Vigilance Officer.

AAP calls it 'harassment'

Meanwhile, AAP strongly condemning the move, has called it an act of "harassment." The party claimed that the ED had no legal sanction for the prosecution and accused the agency of acting with "callousness" in its investigation. AAP further pointed out that several senior party leaders, including Kejriwal and former deputy CM Manish Sisodia, had already been jailed about the case.

“This is to inform you that this office has filed the Prosecution Complaint (SPC-7) against Sh. Arvind Kejriwal (Accused No. 37) on, 17.05.2024 in the case M/s Indo-Spirits and Others for irregularities in framing and implementation of the excise policy of GNCTD of Delhi for the year 2021-22the request for sanction stated.
