The Lok Sabha will continue its discussion on Operation Sindoor for a second consecutive day on Tuesday, with Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to address the House.
The Standing Committees on Communications and Information Technology will also table reports on the government’s action taken in response to their earlier recommendations on various issues.
Reports from the standing committees on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj will likewise be presented in the lower house.
A government source said Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to speak in the Lok Sabha between 12 noon and 1 pm, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to deliver his address in the evening.
On Monday, the Lok Sabha began a detailed debate on ‘India’s strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor,’ launched following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh initiated the debate, which continued until around 1 am.
During the discussion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh criticised the opposition, saying the nation must not be distracted by “small issues” when pursuing higher objectives related to national security.
“When the aim is to go higher, we should not pay attention to small issues because focusing on issues that remain comparatively small can divert attention from national security,” Singh told the House.
Deputy Leader Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi responded by attacking the BJP-led government over the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
He pointed out that more than 100 days have passed since the deadly April 22 attack, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, but the government “hasn’t been able to catch those five terrorists” who carried out the assault.
Taking part in the debate on Operation Sindoor, Gogoi questioned why the operation was halted after Pakistan capitulated, asking why the government did not push further to reclaim territory illegally occupied by the neighbouring country.
Gogoi’s remarks came immediately after Rajnath Singh concluded his opening statement.
Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha will also reconvene on Tuesday for a 16-hour discussion on Operation Sindoor. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are expected to participate in the debate.
Prime Minister Modi is also likely to intervene in the Upper House discussion.
The Congress, the main opposition party, has been allocated around two hours for its arguments. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge will lead the debate on behalf of the Congress.
