Lokpal of India marks first annual Lokpal Day in 2025.


The Lokpal of India is set to celebrate its inaugural Lokpal Day on 16th January 2025. This annual observance was decided during a meeting on 14th March 2024, marking the date of its establishment through a notification issued on 16th January 2014.

 

From now on, this day will serve as a reminder of the institution's pivotal role in promoting accountability and transparency in governance.

 

The first commemoration will take place at Zorawar Auditorium, Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt. The event will be graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, Shri Justice Sanjiv Khanna, as the Chief Guest.

 

The gathering is set to commence at 6 PM and will see an attendance of esteemed dignitaries, including Supreme Court and High Court judges, Lokayuktas, senior government officials, and heads of investigating agencies.

 

The Lokpal of India, currently led by Shri Justice A. M. Khanwilkar, has undergone significant transformation since his oath-taking as the second Chairperson on 10th March 2024.

 

Alongside the Chairperson, six other members actively contribute to the functioning of the body. This day not only commemorates its foundation but also reaffirms its commitment to tackling corruption at the highest levels of public service.

 

A highlight of the programme will be the felicitation of notable personalities.

 

The Hon’ble Attorney General of India Shri R Venkatramani, former Supreme Court Justice N. Santosh Hegde, and veteran social activist Padma Bhushan Anna Hazare will be honoured for their contributions to public welfare and legal reforms.

 

The Chief Justice of India is expected to deliver a keynote address, elaborating on the significance of the Lokpal in the governance framework. His speech will likely shed light on the institution's evolving role and its objectives for the future.
