The Lok Sabha on Thursday was adjourned till 2 pm shortly after resuming, while the Rajya Sabha continued its proceedings after reconvening at 12 pm.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to make a statement at 2 pm in Rajya Sabha on the deportation of Indian nationals allegedly residing illegally in the United States.

The political uproar over the deportation of more than 100 Indian nationals, reportedly living illegally in the US, led to the adjournment of both Houses of Parliament.

Following this, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, called for an end to "planned disruptions" and urged members to allow the smooth functioning of the House.

"Your matter is with the government. This is a matter of the Ministry of External Affairs. This subject is related to another country. The Government has taken cognisance of it. I request you, to not resort to planned disruptions to prevent the smooth functioning of the House. Question Hour is an important session where members put forward the problems of the citizens, and the government answers it," Speaker Birla said.

Earlier today, both Houses had been adjourned till 12 noon following protests over the deportations. Congress MPs Manickam Tagore, Gaurav Gogoi, and KC Venugopal moved adjournment motions in the Lower House to discuss the matter.

The incident in question involves a US Air Force plane carrying Indian nationals, who were allegedly illegally residing in the US, arriving in Amritsar, Punjab. This follows previous reports about the increasing deportations of Indian nationals by the US government.

The ongoing Budget session has already witnessed disruptions. Opposition parties have raised objections over several issues, including Rahul Gandhi’s speech on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address and the recent Mahakumbh stampede tragedy.

The session, which began on January 31, will continue until February 13. The second part will resume on March 10 and conclude on April 4.
