Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh has taken over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff. He assumed the new responsibility on following his tenure as Director General Operational Logistics & Strategic Movement at the Army Headquarters. Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh will be succeeding Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani as the VCOAS.
In a pivotal leadership transition at Army Headquarters, Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh officially assumed the appointment of Vice Chief on 31 July 2025. He took part in the ceremony in South Block in the national capital as he took charge as the new VCOAS.A veteran Special Forces officer with a stellar track record in operational logistics and high-altitude warfare, his elevation signals strategic continuity backed by combat-tested experience.
Earlier on Thursday, Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani was superannuated after 39 years of distinguished service in the Indian Army.Lt Gen Subramani laid a wreath to honour the supreme sacrifice of the army officers at the National War Memorial, and reviewed the Guard of Honour at South Block during the superannuation ceremony.
Commissioned into the 4th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) in December 1987, Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh brings with him over 38 years of rich experience in operational and strategic roles across the Indian Army.An alumnus of La Martiniere College, Lucknow University, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, the General Officer has served in several key operations including OP PAWAN, OP MEGHDOOT, OP ORCHID, and multiple tenures in OP RAKSHAK.
He has commanded a Special Forces unit in the Kashmir Valley and along the Line of Control, an Infantry Brigade, and a Mountain Division during OP SNOW LEOPARD along the Line of Actual Control. He also served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of a Corps based in Himachal Pradesh, responsible for sensitive areas including Jammu, Samba, and Pathankot.
Lt Gen Singh has undergone extensive training during his career, including the Staff Course at DSSC Wellington, Higher Defence Management Course at CDM Secunderabad, and the Advance Professional Programme in Public Administration at IIPA. He holds a Master’s in Management Studies from Osmania University and a Master’s in Philosophy from Punjab University.In recognition of his exemplary service, he has been decorated with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and a Bar to the Sena Medal.
The General Officer has insightful knowledge and a deep understanding of operational dynamics on both Western and Northern Borders.He has attended the prestigious Staff Course at DSSC, Wellington, Higher Defence Management Course at CDM Secunderabad and Advanced Professional Programme in Public Administration at IIPA. He holds a Master’s in Management Studies from Osmania University and a Master’s in Philosophy from the Punjab University.
