Lt General Pushpendra Singh will be the Indian Army's next Vice Chief. Having been in the service for more than 35 years, Lt Gen Singh will take over as the next Vice Chief of the Army Staff on Friday, August 1, succeeding Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani.
This is the first appointment of its kind from the Para (Special Forces) since 2009.
Lt Gen Singh is an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and got commissioned into the 4 Para (Special Forces) in December 1987.
The Indian Army officer has been involved in numerous significant operations, including Operation Pawan, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Rakshak, and Operation Orchid.

According to officials, he also brings valuable international experience, having served in United Nations Peacekeeping Missions in Lebanon and Sri Lanka. In April 2022, Lt Gen Singh assumed command as the General Officer Commanding of the Rising Star Corps.
He was among the recipients of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) last month.
