The Indian Army has adopted its fresh Corps Commander for Srinagar-based 15 Corps, (Chinar Corps) who will take over his new assignment on 15 October.

 

Elections in the Union Territory are being prepared after a decade, with polling starting on 18 September and continuing to end on 1 October. The results will be declared on 4 October.

 

 Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava has been sent as the next Corps Commander of the Chinar Corps and he would assume his new assignment on 15 October, army sources told reporters.

 

The officer has vast experience in the Kashmir Valley and was commanding a Rashtriya Rifles Force in the region before moving to Army Headquarters.

 

The incumbent, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, will continue as commander of the Corps responsible for the security of Kashmir Valley and Line of Control.

 

Lieutenant General Ghai has been cleared to take over as the new Director General of Military Operations relieving Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma.

 

He is an expert in counter-terrorism operations and has worked in close coordination with the Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi during his tenure as Northern Army Commander.

 

Besides, two important principal staff officers at Army Headquarters, including the Deputy Chief of Strategy and the Deputy Chief of capability of Development and Sustenance), are set to retire on 31 October.

 

While a large number of officers have already been assigned to take up roles in different Corps, including the 3 Corps in Dimapur, and the new Commandant of the Army War College, that number is according to the list of new postings issued on 22 July.
