The Madhya Pradesh Assembly's Budget session has officially kicked off today, spanning from July 3 to July 19, with 14 sittings scheduled. This session is expected to be marked by intense debates and confrontations, particularly surrounding the alleged nursing college scam and the issue of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops.
Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar conducted a thorough review of the preparations for the session on Sunday, ensuring everything was in order for the proceedings. This session is the third of the 16th legislative assembly, setting the stage for critical discussions and decisions.
The Congress party, which is in opposition, is gearing up to challenge the government on several fronts. Key among their concerns is the alleged nursing college scam, a scandal involving significant irregularities in the functioning of several nursing colleges.
This issue is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Congress has planned a protest at the residence of former Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang, who now holds the cooperative portfolio. They accuse him of being involved in the scam, and they are demanding a thorough investigation.
In addition to the nursing college scam, the Congress is also set to press the government on its promise of ensuring MSP for farm produce, a commitment made during the previous assembly elections.
The issue of MSP has long been a point of contention, with farmers and various political groups calling for its implementation to ensure fair prices for their crops.
Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar has advocated for more transparency in the assembly's proceedings. He has called for the live broadcasting of the assembly's sessions, similar to what is done in the Lok Sabha, to allow the public to witness their representatives' actions and debates firsthand.
Singhar has also stressed the importance of adhering to the schedule, urging that the sessions should not be adjourned prematurely, thereby ensuring that all issues are thoroughly discussed and debated.
As the session unfolds, all eyes will be on the debates over the nursing college scam and MSP, with both sides preparing to present their arguments and evidence. The government's budget presentation today will also be a focal point, with stakeholders keenly observing the allocations and policies proposed.
