Madhya Pradesh presents ₹4.21 lakh cr Budget for 2025-26

Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Jagdish Devda presented the state budget for the financial year 2025-26 in the assembly on Wednesday, proposing a total outlay of ₹4,21,032 crore.

 

This marks an increase of nearly 15 pc from the previous year’s budget of ₹3.65 lakh crore.

 

The budget has been structured with a long-term vision, aiming to double the state’s financial outlay in the next five years. It focuses on expanding capital investment, improving road, irrigation, and power infrastructure, attracting investment in healthcare, and generating employment opportunities.

 

While presenting the budget, Devda emphasised that public participation played a key role in its preparation. The finance minister noted that over 1,500 suggestions were received from citizens, economists, and subject experts, many of which have been incorporated into the financial plan for the upcoming year.

 

In terms of allocations, the budget proposes ₹26,797 crore for the Women and Child Development Department and ₹23,535 crore for the health sector. The agriculture and allied sectors have been allocated ₹58,257 crore to support farmers and rural development initiatives.

 

For urban infrastructure, ₹18,715 crore has been earmarked, reflecting an increase of ₹2,000 crore from the previous year. The rural development and Panchayat sector has been allocated ₹19,050 crore.

 

The energy sector will receive ₹19,000 crore, while ₹17,136 crore has been set aside for the Jal Jeevan Mission, aimed at providing clean drinking water in rural areas.

 

A provision of ₹1,610 crore has been made for tourism, culture, and religious trusts, while ₹2,005 crore has been allocated for preparations related to Simhastha-2028, the grand Kumbh Mela held in Ujjain.
