An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale struck Nepal on Friday evening, causing mild tremors that were felt across several parts of Northern India, according to a reports.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) confirmed that the earthquake occurred at 7:52 PM local time and originated at a depth of 20 kilometers. Despite the widespread tremors, there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the affected areas.

Providing technical details of the seismic activity, NCS posted on X: "EQ of M: 5.0, On: 04/04/2025 19:52:53 IST, Lat: 28.83 N, Long: 82.06 E, Depth: 20 Km, Location: Nepal." The epicenter lies in a seismically active region of Nepal that has seen frequent tremors in the past due to tectonic activity in the Himalayan belt.

This latest tremor comes just a week after a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, causing massive destruction and a high number of casualties. Over 3,000 people lost their lives in that disaster, more than 4,500 sustained injuries, and at least 341 individuals are still missing.

The Myanmar quake, which was one of the most severe in the region in recent years, caused widespread structural damage, with collapsed buildings, shattered roads, and major disruptions to daily life.

The Myanmar earthquake was felt across several neighboring countries, including parts of India, China, Thailand, and Vietnam. Entire communities were affected, with infrastructure heavily damaged and many regions left inaccessible.

Although the official figures from Myanmar's government remain staggering, local media and rescue workers on the ground have suggested that the actual death toll and scale of destruction may be significantly higher. Limited communication facilities and the remote nature of many of the affected areas have made it difficult to confirm the full extent of the disaster.

In comparison, Friday's quake in Nepal was far less severe, but it has once again drawn attention to the vulnerability of South and Southeast Asia to seismic activity. Authorities continue to monitor the situation in Nepal, although no emergency measures have been activated at this time.
